Divi 5 is focused on performance and scalability. The developers at Elegant Themes will be improving the speed and sharpness of the DIVI Visual Builder, speeding up front-end and back-end page load speeds, and increasing the ability to handle complex designs.
Shortcodes are going!
One change that will accompany Divi 5.0 is the migration away from shortcodes (YAY!!!) and towards a newer storage format. Migrating away from shortcodes has several advantages.
- It will facilitate faster and more streamlined processing of Divi pages and all of their design settings.
- It creates fewer bugs by prohibiting the complexity of executing shortcodes and shortcode codes in the post content.
- It will make it easier to begin developing a system for enabling nested content of our own (e.g., rows within rows).
Including an API Builder
Divi 5’s biggest innovation is encouraging the development of third-party apps through an overhaul of the DIVI API. It will enable third parties to build whatever they like using DIVI’s new API.
